LIVE NEWS: Me and Pixel added to 'Dawn Of The Don' line-up

Me and Pixel are going to be performing exclusive new material [none of the songs we're performing have ever been performed or heard outside of the studio, if you want classics you'll be at the wrong show. Strictly future classics] at Akira The Don's 'Dawn of the Don' gig on Friday May 29th. Most of the songs performed will make up the new mixtape which Jack is in the process of mixing as I type [real mixing rather than DJ Mixing, that process is a few weeks off at least].

We'll be joining Akira on the bill with Stephen Hague, Joey2Tits, Blonde Jeremy Deacon, Zombiehamster and Kill Witnesses who are all DJ'ing. You should buy advance tickets and look at the awesome flyer HERE.

Criminal knife possession down 50% from 2004

According to Met figures released today, the number of people charged with possessing a knife has fallen by 50% since 2004. Does that sound realistic? Well yes it does actually. The Met go on to say that they expect those numbers to increase massively over the next few months as they carry out a new operation called Blunt 2 or Don't Ignore Knife Crime Any More (DIKCAM) as many in the know have dubbed it. Blunt 2 came into operation in May, it involves a load of stop and searches (awesome) and some metal detector gates at tube stations for all those cross-London knife smugglers (knives are hard to come by in some sections of London known as the 'No Woolworths Zones').

"As a result more people are being arrested and charged for carrying knives. Since the beginning of April this year, 1187 people (887 adults and 300 youths) have been charged with possession of a knife or sharp instrument." I would personally like to see a break down of these cases, 3 adults to every youth? That seems disproportionate somewhat. Can I get a Police handbook definition of a "Sharp Instrument" too please? Because my pencil can be deadly.

Another teenager dies

Another teenager was killed in London yesterday. This one's sister wasn't a peripheral Eastenders character so who knows how this one's going to play out? If his name and the side of the river he died on have anything to do with it, I wouldn't expect to hear too much more on this one.

Ian Blair: Murder rate is falling

Ian Blair had some interesting things to say about the murder rate in London today.

Stopping the 70 teenage murders in 18 months must begin at home you say? How convenient. Knives are in the kitchen draw? No way! Are they in the kitchen draw in Kent? Newcastle? Swansea?
"But the proportion of young people (killed) has risen," he said. "That's why we're doing something about it."

Right.

R.I.P Jimmy Mizen

This story has been depressing me in levels you wouldn't understand this week. This kid (16) Jimmy Mizen was stabbed to death at a bakery on Saturday morning. They say he died trying to defuse a stupid situation, apparently the kid was a real pragmatist and a genuinely good guy; he was 6ft 4inches so you know he could have handled the situation in a different way but as cowards do they draw for the weapon and they take a life. I'm so messed up over this, I would teach my child to act the way he acted, I would have acted the way he acted. London is in big trouble right now, I hate to sound like a moaning old man but seriously if these kids aren't brought in a bit (a lot) you're going to have the good guys walking around with knives and guns, I can see adults carrying weapons to protect themselves because the way people see it right now, teenagers in London can not be touched, the teenagers think it (I thought it), the adults know it (I know it) and the Police are a waste of space at the best of times (everybody knows it). You can "Solve" this crime, you can lock the kid who did this up (or not, apparently he's fled to North Cyprus already) but you can't go back in time and save Jimmy Mizel's life, how many more children have to die before you figure it out? I hate to say it, but I hope a well raised, well behaved white kid with prospects dieing on the streets will do something to ignite something proactive. If this is the straw that breaks the camel's back then I hope we can end these senseless killings, but at the same time, if it turns out to be the case I will be right there to dissect the nonchalance that has surrounded the killings of (what are we up to now?) 30 teenagers in 2 years in London is it? I can't do that now though, kids are still dieing, this isn't the 3rd world, kids should not be dieing in a major capital city at this rate.

Now that's weather you can vote to

I just voted. Did you? They say the weather can be a leading contributor to election outcomes. They say Labour voters don't like the rain or something. Who did Tego vote for you ask? I voted for The Monster Raving Looney Party of course...they should so have run. Marvin didn't vote. Not because he's sick and can't leave his bed. No. Because he has this weird thing about party politics and how he won't contribute to the bullshit. Pah. I'm sure he'll fill you in when he's feeling a bit better.

UPDATE: I just got a phone call that went thusly...

RING RING:
Tego: Hello
Person: Hello is this the Saopong residence?
Tego: No. They used to have this number but they don't any more.
Person: Oh. Okay. Can I ask your name?
Tego: Why yes. Tego.
Person: Hello Tego. I'm phoning on behalf of Ken Livingston.
Tego: Wow.
Person: Are you planning to vote today?
Tego: I have voted already.
Person: Oh excellent. Can I ask did you vote for Ken?
Tego: Oh you can ask but no I didn't.
Person: Oh okay. Thanks for your time.
Tego: You're welcome. Thanks for your call.
Person: *Hangs up*

Good lord. Ken's phoning people? That's desperate.

Actually I should add here that the other day I saw Ken in Brixton and called him a dick head. He didn't flinch. Proof that he's a dick head.

For the best word on today's election thus far check out Jack Nimble's post on his new blog MoneyFrom88.Blogspot.com.
