So you guys did what needed to be done and I caught up with Marvin on Monday night when he revealed to me that he had just been in a meeting with Jack where they played through some beats and started putting some plans together. The thinking at the moment is that Marvin actually has half a mixtape in the bag and maybe a 3rd of an album or half of an EP. The sounds of the mixtape and the album are very different but we will be releasing them both in 2010. The album currently sounds very dark, very haunted. An intriguing development I'm sure you'll agree.
He is accepting beat submissions for his mixtape via email whylout[at]hotmail[dot]com and would love to have you guys be involved.
I have told Marvin he needs to tell you what's going on directly and he says he will do.

Like I said
Blog claart!
I've neglected you. So sporadic, so busy, so exceptional.
I want to blog like I used to blog because a) it meant I kept up with all the B-S in the world and b) it was good for the Google Ads. But alas I am too busy and I just don't feel like it. I've noticed a lot of people have sacrificed that blogging boom of 2008 for pretty empty webspace. I'm not going to do that completely. I'm going to do some proper blogging over the next few months. What's going on Marvin? You okay? How's things? Excellent? Excellent I hope? Yes. Things are excellent. Thanks for asking. You're a scholar and a gentleman.
I wish I had some crazy depression story to tell, or an IV drip coming out of my thumb to explain my disappearance but I really don't. I've been in the studio, writing and recording, waiting for a reason to hurt feelings with my amazing rap skills again but nothing really came up. A whole gang of schoopidness. British rap is successful for the first time ever but it has come at a cost. Clearly. That new Tinie Tempah record goes extra hardness though. Everybody go and buy that when it comes out, I don't know when it does but I will find out because joints is bangin.
Instead of waiting for the climate I've decided I'll set the climate. Like fuel emissions, or government agenda, whatever. I'm going to drop 100+ songs in 2010 starting with a new mixtape which I'll be giving you in the next 31 days. I wanted it for the start of Jan, then the end of Jan, now I want it when it's ready. I'm sick of people asking me for a new mixtape for the whip, for school, for the ipod, for the journey to work, for the crew, for the block, for the blogs. So I'm just gonna fucking give you all one. Not just one, the best one yet. I've been listening to my last two recently and think they're pretty good, I know where I need to fine tune though.
After my first mixtape I'll have another pretty quickly following. Then another, then who knows? You will decide. I can't be fucked playing chess with these duck, duck, goose playing pricks. Waste of my fucking time. I know you feel me. Which one of those tramps comes near me? Not a one. Seriously. So I'm just gonna hurt the skreets with new shit.
That's my word for today. Tomorrow I'll fill you in on what I've been listening to/watching/eating or whatever.
YALLA!

Things I've listened to over the last few weeks...
I'm just going to list some things I've been listening to...
MY NEW PROJECT: I've been recording it and therefore listening to it. I say it's my new project. It's not. It's mine, Pixel's and Jack's. We don't have a name for it but it's almost finished and is almost ready for you good people. We'll shoot the cover next week.
50 CENT/ WAR ANGEL LP: 50 Cent is one of the best doing it right now period. If you don't think so then you are clearly confused as to what it is this thing of ours is. 'War Angel LP' goes very hard (excluding those two every-so-slightly-fruity numbers in the middle). If you haven't grabbed this yet, do it now, it's free on ThisIs50.com.
J.COLE/ THE WARM-UP: I was given this CD totally blind. I'm down the middle with it. I think the guy's got skills but I think he over-reached with some of his beat selection and his flow can get pretty monotonous when he doesn't have a specific subject. I'm with him for the time being though.
More later. Three posts in one day. Who'da thunk it ey?

Marvin & DJ Jack Nimble- Somebody's Watching Me Mixtape [Sendspace]
Here it is. 4 months after My last tape, 3 months after My debut album. I give you, mixtape of the year 2008. I'm so proud of this thing right here. It actually ended up taking about a month longer than intended. Bang this in your whips, your headphones, your houseparties, your evictions! This is Recession music right here. This is industrial, the 80s are back, I don't give a fuck, dole queue, dark nights, cold days music right here. Send the link to your friends, post it on your forums, post it on your blogs, put the songs on BitTorrent, this is not for profit, this is not for a label, this is not for the radio, this is not for the critics, this is for the people who want it, the people who need it. This is for you and yours.
Beats From: N*E*R*D, Masta Ace, Joell Ortiz, Ice Cube, Bun-B, Murs and more from the world of hip-hop as well as hot new tracks from the world of Dancehall.

Somebody's Watching Me Mixtape- Details

I promised more details today. Let's see...what can I tell you? Well, I can tell you that there is a production debut on the tape from Ben Official. He's featured in a few of our videos and drives us places sometimes. The tape is built around actual songs, rather than freestyles [which is what the last tape was built around]. I went out of my way to find instrumentals that actually represent something within me. Two of the songs are long verses, they're possibly my two favourites. I don't actually know how many bars long they are. I was going to find out but I realised that's what rappers do and I'm not like the others. It's a song...with no chorus...or bridge. I invented a word on one song...what else is there? Okay, one more thing, I actually borrowed hooks on two songs. Oh yeah one other thing. I cut a song. We cut a song. I'll let that out in a couple of weeks maybe.

On track...

Sore throats and runny noses slowed the tape down, not a lot, maybe 24 hours. Jack's been mixing non-stop. Like literally non-stop. We're almost...ALMOST...AAALLLMMMOOOSSTT there. I'm going to have a tracklisting for you by the end of the week. We're hoping to drop next week. I'm making no promises. I need to build it up real nice.

Somebody's Watching Me Mixtape News

Yeah it's got it's own news yeah! What you gonna do about it?
Me and Jack set a deadline of 19/09/08 for all the recording on the tape. The eagle eye cherry amongst you will notice that 19/09/08 is in fact today. Well. It was always an optimistic target. Saying that, we are 95% done. I've rocked over some great instrumentals, some that actually mean a lot to me as an artist, some artists that you might not expect me to be into and be influenced by. I was thinking about leaking a track this week or maybe early next week but I'm now leaning against that idea. The tape to me is miles better than 'The Blogspot Mixtape' which I am still very proud of. This tape is a lot more focussed. Apart from 'Hero' which I recorded maybe 2 weeks after I put the first tape to bed, the whole tape has been recorded in a pretty tight space of time, which gives it a good consistency and very strong energy. Pixel came in and blessed the tape a couple of times on Wednesday. I'm hoping to get him in at the start of the week to bless it maybe twice more. His verses are incredible. One of the tracks he's on was actually set by a Jack verse and it's a track I'm not actually on at the moment, I will be by the end of the day though.
I'm on course to get the whole tape recorded by Monday, I need to finish one verse and two songs. Then Jack will mix everything down, put it all on a big white board and start beat matching tracks, it's a great way of doing it, you get to group your mixes and space your tracks well. It's not like an album, you really have to plan your mixtape so that it rides in a car or on headphones. I'm not going to put a time frame on Jack finishing the mixing of the tape because it's not my place, Wednesday or maybe Thursday though we should have an idea how long it's going to take, I'll ask Jack and pass on the message.
'Somebody's Watching Me' is different to 'The Blogspot Mixtape' in a lot of ways. This tape is not an introduction, it's not before or after anything, it's a sign of things to come in a lot of ways but it will stand alone. I'm not going to do too much talking on the tape, I've done that, I've got my blog to talk on, I've got an album in the can, if you want to know what I'm about then Devil In The Distance will tell you everything. I have a couple of tracks on the tape where I rock for a few minutes straight, just blacking out, no chorus, no middle, no end, I'm very excited to hear how it all fits together. There's no gimmick to this tape, it's all about a mindset, one I think we're all in or approaching at the moment, the economy is fucked, society appears to be in meltdown, we have the least popular Prime Minister and the least popular President maybe ever with winter just around the corner.
Having literally three songs remaining on the tape I suddenly felt like it was worth talking about. I wanted to make it clear before it arrived, this mixtape is not for the radio, it's not for the press, it's not for the label, this mixtape is for you.

September
It's the 9th month of the year. The summer is over, the Autumn is here. I've got a crazy lot of shit going on in my life right now that I'm not going to get into but I will talk you through my rapper plans for the month.
The First!!!
A new Video! We are shooting a new video this month for one of my favourite songs on the album. I'll let you know more details in the coming weeks. It's an ambitious treatment, an arty treatment, something that will probably be too controversial for TV. Something that we really want to do.
The Second!!!
A new Mixtape! I've been recording for the last two weeks. I did some stuff at the start of the month and I've set myself a 10 day deadline for completing it. Then I hand it over to Jack who will mix it, we'll record drops and we'll give it to the people i.e. you. The mixtape is called 'Somebody's Watching Me' and so far it's sounding hot. I guarantee hotness.
The Third!!!
Gigs! In these credit crunchy times it's hard to book one off gigs hardly anywhere, but I have a couple and I will be bringing a new set for these dates. September 6th in Bridgwater and September 14th at Shoreditch Shuffle.
The Fourth!!
I technically don't have a fourth! Not that I'm ready to tell you about anyway. The second half of the month will be spent mostly getting ready for November. Which is going to be a good month. But also January/ February, which is the scheduled release time for my second album! Woah!
And so on...

This Is Mr Bang On - The Mixtape Mixed by Show N Prove

Shout outs to Shinobi who just hit me with this mixtape. Mr Bang On is out of Liverpool and featured on the latest Hip-Hop Connection cover-disc. Show N Prove are big in the mixtape and production game. This shit goes very hard. I love Liverpool, I always get a good response in Liverpool, I've been waiting for a rapper to come out with some shit from Liverpool for a minute, last time I was there some kids promised me there was going to be some serious shit coming.

Lil Flip- Holla Back [Mixtape]

This new Lil Flip mixtape is as good as I've ever from heard him. I know a lot of people don't like him but fuck you because I do. Marvin doesn't like him and this is his blog but to be fair he's never heard the mixtape. So he can shut his stupid face.
